In the first world title fight on Irish soil in 13 years, local favorite Bernard Dunne (28-1, 15 KOs) knocked out reigning WBA junior featherweight champion Ricardo Cordoba (34-2-2, 21 KOs) in round eleven on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in Dublin, Ireland. A highly motivated Dunne dropped Cordoba late in round three with a hard left hook, but Cordoba survived the remaining seconds of the round. Cordoba came back strong to drop Dunne twice in the fifth round. Dunne recovered well in the sixth, and seemed to get increasingly stronger as the fight progressed. He finally floored Cordoba three times in the eleventh round to win the world title. Cordoba was taken from the ring on a stretcher.

The WBC has declared reigning heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko to be “the greatest puncher ever in the heavyweight division.”
WBC heavyweight Vitali Klitschko (38-2, 37 KOs) won by technical knockout in the ninth round over official challenger Juan Carlos Gomez (44-2, 35 KOs) on Saturday night at Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart, Germany.
From the very beginning of fight, the challenger attempted to establish the rhythm with the fast jabs, while the Ukrainian boxer pawed at Gomez with his left as he sought to find the best distance. and on the case of the Cuban. It was clear that Gomez could only win it with his speed, while Vitali was much more powerful.
By third round Vitali began to get in some head shots. In the fifth round Gomez was cut over the right eye. Vitali suffered a bloody gash on the hairline after a collision by heads in sixth round Gomez especially a head has damaged head Vitali, it was all in blood. Despite the damage, Klitschko continued to build his lead on the cartds of all three judges and in the seventh round a series of powerful blows sent Gomez to the deck.

Dr. Ironfist then confirmed his nickname by finishing Gomez via TKO.
Now it must be resolved who Klitschko will face next. The champion wants a unification fight against WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev, but the WBC has ordered a fight against former champion Oleg Maskaev. This matter will likely be resolved in court.
“Gomez is a world class boxer,” said Vitali afterward. “He was not a casual challenger. We’ve known each other for a long time. I tried to operate rationally, but at the same time I many superfluous movements. It was difficult for me, but I won!”
Gomez stated, “”I try to look at this defeat philosophically. There are good days and bad days, as happened today. I’d like to say that I very well could have beat Klitschko, but the cut above the right eye which I received in one of the early rounds, very much prevented me from boxing. I had trouble seeing his punches.”

Kelly Pavlik looks to prove to the boxing world how good he really is after a dismal showing against Bernard Hopkins last October as he takes on WBC mandatory challenger Marco Antonio Rubio. Rubio (43-4-1, 37 KO’s) won on the Pavlik-Hopkins undercard to force a mandatory championship defense. He will have a tough task in trying to defeat Pavlik (34-1, 30 KO’s) in his own backyard at the Chevrolet Centre in Youngstown.
The fight will be part of a dual-headline Top Rank PPV. The other main event will be the Cotto vs Jennings fight from Madison Square Garden in New York. The Cotto-Jennings fight is set to go off first at around 10:00 EST and the Pavlik-Rubio fight is going to start when the first fight ends.
Kelly Pavlik wants to unify the middleweight championships before moving up to 166. he looked very lackluster in his last fight, a non-championship fight against Bernard Hopkins, when he fought ten pounds over his normal weight. Pavlik was ill the week of the fight but chose to go ahead not to let the boxing fans down. He may have done just that by fighting a legend when not at 100 percent. Hopkins pretty much had his way with Pavlik the whole fight, and to his credit, Pavlik didn’t whine, use the illness as an excuse, or offer up a dissertation on what went wrong, he just admitted defeat with no excuses.
Rubio and Pavlik both have the power to end a fight with one punch. I think Pavlik will be fighting with a chip on his shoulder feeling as though he has something to prove. This will be a rough night for the challenger Rubio, but not a long one. I predict Kelly Pavlik to win by TKO in the fifth round in front of 7,000 family members, friends, and neighbors.

Former two-division world champion Joel Casamayor (36-3-1, 22 KOs) showed he's still at the top of the lightweight division with a brilliant tenth round TKO over previously unbeaten and highly regarded Michael Katsidis (23-1, 20 KOs) in a bout for Katsidis' WBO interim lightweight title on Saturday night at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, CA. Casamayor dropped Katsidis twice in round one and couldn't miss with his straight left. Katsidis, however, managed to brawl his way into the fight in rounds three and four, as he hurt Casamayor with some brutal shots. Katsidis' relentless pressure continued and he knocked Casamayor completely out of the ring at the end of round six. Over the ensuing rounds, the cagey Casamayor used all his boxing skill and experience and was able to take some of the steam out of Katsidis' furious attack. Casamayor was deducted a point for a low blow in round nine, but spectacularly dropped Katsidis hard in round ten and referee Jon Schorle stopped the bout moments later. Time was :30. Entering the tenth round, Katsidis was ahead 84-83 on two cards, while Casamayor was ahead 85-82 on the third card

In the first heavyweight title fight ever to be held in Mexico, "The Nigerian Nightmare" Samuel Peter (30-1, 23 KOs) stopped Oleg Maskaev (34-6, 26 KOs) in round six to claim the WBC heavyweight title in Saturday night at the Plaza De Toros in Cancun. Both fighters rocked each other in an exciting round three, and Peter had established a two point lead after four rounds. Peter ended the show with a sustained barrage of punches that prompted referee Guadelupe Garcia to stop the fight. Time was 2:56.
Lightweight Nate "Galaxxy Warrior" Campbell (32-5-1, 25 KOs) dethroned previously unbeaten IBF/WBA/WBO world champion Juan "Baby Bull" Diaz (33-1, 17 KOs) by twelve round split decision. Both fighters excitingly traded punches over the first half of the fight. Campbell cut Diaz over the left eye with a punch in round six, however Campbell was deducted a point in that round by referee Jesus Salcedo Lopez for an alleged headbutt. From that point things went south for the champion as Campbell became more and more in control. Diaz' eye was swollen shut at the end. Scores were 114-113 Diaz, 115-112, 116-111 Campbell.
