In the first world title fight on Irish soil in 13 years, local favorite Bernard Dunne (28-1, 15 KOs) knocked out reigning WBA junior featherweight champion Ricardo Cordoba (34-2-2, 21 KOs) in round eleven on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in Dublin, Ireland. A highly motivated Dunne dropped Cordoba late in round three with a hard left hook, but Cordoba survived the remaining seconds of the round. Cordoba came back strong to drop Dunne twice in the fifth round. Dunne recovered well in the sixth, and seemed to get increasingly stronger as the fight progressed. He finally floored Cordoba three times in the eleventh round to win the world title. Cordoba was taken from the ring on a stretcher.
